Sweets Cottage is a delightful 16th Century thatched cottage full of charm and character with many original features including oak beams, whitewashed wooden floors, picture window seats and Inglenook fireplaces. This beautiful family home is also one of the most photographed cottages in Croyde being featured on postcards and sweet boxes. Situated in the centre of the village, just minutes away from a choice of restaurants, ice cream parlours, family friendly pubs and surf shops, whilst the beautiful Blue Flag sandy beach, great for surfing and rock pooling is within an easy walk.
The property is set back from the road with a low garden wall, flower beds and nearby stream which meanders through village. The side gate and path lead you to the original main oak front door. There are wooden floors throughout and on entering the hallway you will find plenty of storage for coats, flip flops and walking boots. Continue through to the open plan snug area with Inglenook fireplace, painted beamed ceilings, comfy sofas and books, an ideal retreat for those wishing to enjoy a little relaxing space.
The magnificent ‘L’ shaped living room with comfortable sofas provides a great social space for family gatherings. A beautiful Inglenook fireplace with bread oven creates an ideal setting for the wood burner, a perfect cosy focal point on cooler evenings. Why not take advantage of the basket of throws provided and snuggle up to watch a DVD or good film on the large flat screen TV. Play Station 3 is also provided.
The bespoke kitchen benefits from a large vaulted glass roof – allowing light to flood in. Handmade units in washed grey, compliment the granite worktops and appliances. Underfloor heating keeps the kitchen cosy during cooler seasons. The dining area has a large oak table which can be extended with wooden benches alongside. This dual aspect room has views towards the spacious back garden and patio which is accessed via double doors.
A handy utility area provides dual sink units and washing machine, whilst also giving access through to the downstairs WC.
The open sided wooden staircase leads up to the 5 bedrooms. Bedroom one with king size wrought iron bed, beautifully tiled en-suite shower room with washbasin, WC and heated towel rail. Bedroom two has twin beds and good quality matching pine furniture. A separate bathroom provides a short hip bath with handheld shower attachment, wash basin and WC. Just off the hallway the family suite consists of 3 bedrooms and use of a separate shower room with walk-in shower, WC, basin and heated towel rail. Access to bedrooms four and five is through bedroom 3 which has two single beds, original oak beams and views over the garden. Bedroom four with king size bed and matching furniture also enjoys garden views. Bedroom five with bunks has a sloping ceiling. This small, quaint room is only suitable for children.
Outside, there is a very private and protected south facing terrace directly off the French doors from the kitchen/dining area with teak chairs and a parasol for alfresco dining and a gas barbecue. There’s also a hot tub for up to 6 guests available all year round. Beyond this an extensive sloping lawn garden with a small patio area at the top, ideal for those wishing to relax and read. At the back of the house there is also an outdoor shower for those returning from the beach and a board store with a selection of surf boards for guest use.
Parking is available for 4/5 cars. And there is also secure storage for bikes and boards.
