Just two miles from the stunning North Devon coast is Braunton which is reputed to be the largest village in Britain. It’s a thriving village with a wide range of amenities making it a fantastic base for a North Devon holiday.
Braunton is located right in the centre of the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and incorporates Braunton Burrows, the largest sand dune system in England. Its proximity to Saunton Sands, which runs alongside the burrows and the nearby popular beaches of Croyde and Putsborough make it a popular village to stay in.
The village has a wide choice of places to eat including award winning fish and chips, a couple of Bistros, Wood Fired Pizzeria, Thai and traditional pubs serving great local produce. Braunton also has an abundance of independent shops, including a number of surf shops where you can buy or hire your surfboard and wetsuit gear.
If surfing is not your thing and you’d like to have an active Devon holiday then Braunton has direct access to the South West Coast path where you can walk to Croyde, past Baggy Point and onto Woolacombe. Or if you like to cycle then join the off-road Tarka Trail which runs past the village and cycle the 7 miles to the pretty estuary village of Instow, which sits where the River Taw and Torridge fun into the sea.
