Description

Ship Ahoy is a short walk from the beautiful Appledore waterfront. This attractive ground floor apartment forms part of a Grade II listed Georgian town house. It sits quietly along one of the pretty back streets in the quaint village centre. The property has been the subject of a first rate renovation showing a mix of traditional period features with a modern, contemporary twist. The hall leads to a shared back patio with a private entrance to the apartment. The roomy lounge has a high corniced ceiling, with the original Georgian windows, a Victorian fireplace and rugs over a wooden floor. The spacious kitchen/diner is well equipped, while the attractive double bedroom overlooks the rear courtyard.

Appledore quayside has a small range of pubs, shops and galleries. A seasonal ferry takes passengers to the pretty little village of Instow across the estuary, with its sheltered stretch of sandy beach, 17th century pier and cosmopolitan yacht club. Historically celebrated for its artists and craftspeople the village now boasts an arts festival and the Appledore Crafts Company, an artist’s co-operative showcasing a broad range of arts and crafts from ceramics and photography to jewellery and painting. There are pleasant walks along the sunny, south-facing quay and along the river towards Bideford and Westward Ho! Westward Ho! is the only place in Britain with an explanation mark in its name, but there's more to it than quirky grammar. Golden Bay beach is a long strip of sand backed by a pebble ridge. On the northern end, you can access the Northern Burrows, a scientifically important area which juts out into the mouth of the estuary. A site of special scientific interest, it boasts sand dunes, salt marsh, grassland, rocky shore and is teeming with wildlife, including rare plants, insects, birds and stunningly vivid lichen

Reviews

Ship Ahoy was a lovely apartment just off the Quay in lovely Appledore. Spotlessly clean and everything you needed. The owners went out of their way to make you feel at home leaving a cream tea and fresh flowers. We would definitely stay here again.
